In my NIV study Bible it states that (the Lords punishment was clearly justified, for to ridicule Elisha was to ridicule the Lord Himself. The gravity of the penalty mirrored the gravity of the crime. The appalling judgement was God’s warning to any and all who attempted to interfere with the newly invested prophets ministry.) This sort of makes it sound like God will strike someone dead for poking fun at a man of God. Jesus was mocked, laughed at, tormented, spit on, etc and I don’t recall his father rallying up a couple bears to get even. The Romans 12:14 verse is a polar (no pun intended) opposition to the justification of the killings my study Bible gives. Just a thought that stirred in my head when I reread both passages after listening to the pod cast today.
